In February an ad hoc citizens’ group met with Public Works Director Jennifer Kern and other Public Works personnel to explore the installation of micro roundabouts in urban intersections.
Urban micro roundabouts will:
– slow (make safer) traffic
– remove traffic signals
– eliminate stop signs
– remove left hand turn lanes
– diminish pan handling
– transform intersections into communities of cooperation
– sponsor local artwork
– celebrate the character of individual neighborhoods
Public Works is looking for intersections to start the program.
Bend OR has created a tour of their roundabouts to the delight of residents and visitors.
